Abhimaan (2012)

Evocative and provocative, this socially relevant follows the fluctuating fortunes and the life of Ananya, his newly married young woman, who leaves her family and familiar places to join her husband in his home. As it was an arranged marriage, not only is the locality and the people new to her, but her own husband is almost a stranger, who is very gentle and wishes to get to know her deeply.

After being dropped in an unfamiliar part of town by her husband, she finds herself stranded alone and afraid due to communal riots in the area. When curfew is imposed, she somehow manages to reach the location her husband had told her to wait at, but he fails to turn up.

Feeling deeply frightened and vulnerable, Ananya is filled with gratitude when an enigmatic stranger gives her refuge. What difficulties will she be forced to face during this chaotic night? Will she succeeded returning home safely? What kind of reception will she receive if and when she gets back to her husband and his family?
