Scottish actor Ewan Gordon McGregor, was born in Perthshire, Scotland and is popularly known for playing the heroin addict Mark Renton in the drama films Trainspotting and T2 Trainspotting and for playing the young Jedi Obi-Wan in the Star Wars franchise. He had received Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor – Musical or Comedy for both 'Moulin Rouge!' and 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen'. He is the nephew of actor Denis Lawson (who has also appeared in the Star Wars franchise, as Rebel Alliance pilot Wedge Antilles) and actress Sheila Gish, and the step-cousin of actress Lou Gish. He received global recognition for his performance in 'Trainspotting' and went on to reprise his role in 2016 sequel 'T2 Trainspotting'. In 2016, he made his directorial debut with American Pastoral. McGregor is married to French production designer Eve Mavrakis, whom he met while working on the television series Kavanagh QC, and has four daughters with her of which one of them had been adopted. McGregor is involved in charity work and was associated with UNICEF UK since 2004 and GO Campaign.

In 2012, he was named as a member of the Jury for the Main Competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, he was awarded the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award and became the youngest recipient of the award.
