Illarikam (1959)

This family-oriented romantic drama traces the twists and turns in the life of Venu (Akkineni Nageswara Rao), a talented young man from an impoverished family, who claims a good education with the help of his maternal uncle.

Radha (Jamuna),a beautiful young woman, who is the daughter of a wealthy landowner (zamindar) falls in love with him and they decide to get married. Her family reluctantly agrees to the marriage under the condition that he would come and live with the bride's family, when the traditional practice in the patriarchal system is for the wife to go and live with the bridegroom's family.

He agrees to this condition, but faces a great deal of slights and ill-will from various quarters including his own mother-in-law, Sundaramma (Hemalatha), who keeps insulting him indirectly. Others within the household make attempts to create misunderstandings between Venu and Radha, hoping to create a divide between them. How will Venu resolve all the conflicts and ensure that he brings everyone in the family together in happiness and harmony?
