Producer-Director Manmohan Desai originally wanted the trio of "Amar Akbar Anthony" to play the lead roles again in this film. However, Shatrughan Sinha replaced Vinod Khanna after the latter took a break from acting.

Almost the entire film industry assembled for the song sequence "John Jani Janardhan".

This film was remade in Tamil as Sandhippu (1983) and in Telugu as Trimurtulu (1987).

"Zindagi Imtihaan Leti Hain" was sampled from "Still I'm Sad" by Boney M.
