Indian film actress Urmila Mahanta had started her career by working on several plays, short films and television series before landing her film debut in the critically acclaimed 2012 Tamil thriller film 'Vazhakku Enn 18/9'. Born alongside three siblings, Urmila graduated from Dimoria College in Kamrup and went on to enroll at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. After receiving praises and success for her Tamil debut in Vazhakku Enn, Urmila went on to shoot for her Bollywood project, 'Pareshaanpur'. In 2014, she made her debut in the Bengali language with the remake of Vazhakku Enn 18/9, Chirodini Tumi Je Amar 2, and in her mother tongue Assamese with TRP Aru. She has also completed working on her Malayalam debut film 'Udal', had worked on AR Murugadoss's hindi film 'Akira', alongside Sonakshi Sinha and also worked on the critically acclaimed 'Manjhi - The Mountain Man', alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. She was presented with the "Young Achievers" 2017 ' award by Dalmia Bharat Cement Ltd.
