Set against the backdrop of the traditional Indian belief system, this romantic tale is about family, unconditional love, fidelity and faith. Prem (Shahid Kapoor) is the obedient son of famous Delhi-based industrialist Harischandra (Anupam Kher). Poonam (Amrita Rao) is a middle class orphan girl who lives in Madhupur, a small ruled town, with a lovable uncle (Aloknath), a nagging auntie (Seema Biswas) and cute cousin (Amrita Prakash). Prem and Poonam are found to be compatible by their respective families, and the date for their wedding is chosen after a six-month span of time. The couple are given time to get to know each other after their engagement, while their respective families also have the opportunity to interact. While the ideally suited couple falls in love, complications arise when a tragedy befalls Poonam's family. Will the families overcome their difficulties to reinstate the sanctity of love and marriage?
